3 Questions About In-home Sessions :: Denver CO Lifestyle Photographer

It’s no secret I love when families choose to have their session at home.  You’ve heard me say more than once, “Life happens at home, so should your session.”  But what if you’re a little anxious about having your session at home?

So I wanted to share some images and put your minds at ease about some things you may be thinking.

Question #1 Do I have to clean my entire house?

Most certainly- no!  My house isn’t clean all the time, especially when I had littles running around- literally running around.  All day- boys and their energy:)  All the caffeine can’t keep up.  Amiright?

We will use the part of the house that has the best light. Before we set time, we discuss what time of day is best for the lighting in your home and kids and husband’s schedules.

Question #2 Isn’t it going to be weird having a stranger in our home?

This one I know some of you are thinking even though you’re too polite to ask;) I strive to make people feel at ease around me. It’s a lot more comfortable for your kids to be at home- they’re surrounded by all their stuff. I’m on their turf, so to speak. When I arrive, I take as much time as I need to have your kids to warm up to me. They usually want to show me their rooms or a fave toy. This is super helpful too because it gives me a glimpse into what they love right now and how to better tell your story. When they’re ready- the camera comes out and the story unfolds.

Question #3 What if my kids don’t behave?

Life with kids can be unpredictable- it’s what I love about them. Chances are something is going to happen. They’ll miss a nap or something out of the ordinary will happen because it’s stuff like this life uses to keep us humble.

Often time tears and tantrums are part of their lives, but I keep clicking. It’s all part of the story. When I document my own life through pictures, I don’t just want the shiny & happy stuff. I want our story to be real. I know someday my own kids will be going through some of life’s harder parts and instead of seeing that life was all puppy dogs & rainbows- they’ll see some of the real struggles we had. And I think they’ll take comfort in knowing this season they’re in is a normal part of life.

This is a great post, and addresses really common questions! I love that you address kids’ behavior. Some of the BEST images come from kids being silly, sneaky, or down-right awful! 😉 I have some amazing temper tantrum photos of clients, and really, they’re REAL. I bet your clients love the genuine moments you capture for them; this set is gorgeous. ReplyCancel
