How do I even start a post about my first baby that turns 8 today?? All the things I began drafting in my head didn’t sound right so I’ll just dive in:) Eight years ago today my life changed forever. Becoming a mom was the best gift I’ve ever been given. It has been a series of joyousness, challenges, rewards, surprises, and moments I hope I’ll never forget. Just last night we were kidding around and Ryan was joking with me and my little AJ (now 6) came to my rescue and said, “Please don’t tease my mom because I love her.” I nearly started crying right there. It’s amazing to me the bonds that we have with our kids… I get so excited for my clients who are taking the leap into parenting and I’m blessed to be a part of it! Our lives are forever changed-for so much the better!

To my Ryan, I love you!

I am so overdue for a blog! It seems like it was just October! November was busy with a trip to Nebraska to celebrate my dad’s 60th birthday-yes I’ll post a few pics “someday”:) Then I blinked and December was gone and while I thought I had posted our Christmas video I hadn’t. So if you wish to see it you can click here. I also have my first trip planned to Tennessee on Friday so I’m not sure when the blog will be caught up… I do plan to post the best of 2011 and while in my type A personality it should come before this blog post, it just can’t. Some things are more important than chronological order:)
The end 0f 2011 came with an unexpected trip to Nebraska. It started Friday around 10:00am with a phone call from my beloved cousin, Christy. She is truly one of my favorite people in the world and since our mom’s are twins and we are only a month apart we were brought up more like sisters than cousins. My earliest memories include Christy and she doubtlessly has had one of the biggest parts in molding the person I am today. All that to say that I love her dearly! So when she called me around 10:00am on Friday to tell me she was in labor with a baby that we have been praying for for over two years! you could say I was a little excited:)
Backup a few years…Christy and her husband, Trent, have a beautiful little girl-Maya. Who, by the way, was one of my very first models ever:

Maya is now 4 and sometime when she was around 2 they found out they were expecting. Sadly, they lost this baby and another that was to come after. After loosing these precious babies, they were unable to conceive and struggled with fertility for the next year. So you see we have prayed and prayed for little baby Megan. And as God had promised them 9 months ago…she arrived on December 30th. Miracles do happen and I was blessed to meet one just a few days ago. Meet baby Megan:

Finally a big sister!

Welcome, baby Megan, we are so happy that you have finally arrived!

My baby turned 3 this week! I still can’t believe I’ve been blessed with three amazing boys and that my baby is 3! Where does the time go? I just wanted to stop by and share a few pictures from then and now of my little guy!

One of the mommy things I always wanted to do was make homemade cakes, not necessarily from scratch, but home-decorated. It all started when I was looking at my husband’s scrapbook and saw these awesome cakes-cookie monster, Denver Bronco helmet, and yes even an eyeball cake. As gross as it looks, I’m sure it was delicious and I would’ve eaten some! :0)

[Picture from my hubby's scrapbook]
I saw all these cakes and was inspired! So for Ryan’s 3rd birthday I wanted to give it a try, however, I soon learned that the cake decorating didn’t come easy to me… as you can see from my first attempt. Any guesses at what it is??

[Picture from my mom]
Then we have my second attempt, AJ’s 2nd birthday:

This one is a little better. I also love that you can see my photography skills have grown. (gulp!)
Here is a first attempt at a 3D cake for Ryan’s 4th birthday:

I was very proud of my firetruck! I had red frosting instead of pink and it didn’t fall over-although it did lean significantly! Then came my favorite (so far)…

My mil taught me how to frost the cake so I didn’t blend the colors.
Then I took a year off and made tornado cupcakes.

I did make Carsie’s cake for his 1st bday, but it’s so much cuter to see the baby then the cake;)

…and a chocolate sprinkle cake.
Then my sister-in-love taught me how to work with fondant. …

My honey’s cake:

[That means 8x4.75=38- I have my dad's humor]
A monster truck cake:

So the idea behind this one was that they could drive on the cake, but I didn’t think Chick-Fil-A would be a big a fan. So…it was an eye soar of deliciousness!
And my most recent cake. I used a ball pan, made my own butter cream frosting and wrestled with homemade marshmallow fondant (and won:) The Death Star:

After looking back at these, I can see that I’m not getting any better. Maybe there’s a cake decorating class in my future. Really it isn’t about showing off my decorating skills (or lack off:) it’s about celebrating another year with my boys and showing them how much they mean to us. It blesses them and that makes it SO worth it! And I’ve learned that no matter what the cake looks like it’s still YUM-O! What’s not to like: cake batter-good, baked cake-good, frosting- GOOD!
Meet Brooke:

…she just had a birthday, and while I won’t tell you which one we celebrated, I can tell you it rhymes with “flirty” and it’s in the title of one of my favorite movies staring Jennifer Garner- LOVE her!
Meet Kim:

She was the brains behind this event:) (I’ll explain later why she’s making this face:) Kim and I wanted to do something fun and extra special for Brooke’s flirty-ith birthday so after much thinking and planning we sent her on an ABC Scavenger Surprise! She would receive a clue and some fun task, food, or present for each letter of the alphabet! How fun is that?! Here are the envelopes:

We had her husband in on it, but Brooke had NO idea! So she was quite surprised when we showed up at her door with directions to wear comfy shoes and a coat.

Still no clue why we were there…

Beautiful lighting (and friend) at our first stop, Asti d’Italia for an antipasto!

We also decided that since she’s “flirty” now she needed to wear clothes that were more appropriate for her age, she was such a good sport! That’s us in the mirror laughing at her. We are such good friends…

We thought we should be a little multicultural and use the Spanish alphabet so we could visit a new favorite store, Charming Charlie’s.

I enjoyed sushi for the first time!

And sampled warm sake…remember Kim’s picture? Ha! That’s what we both thought of it:)

The happy chef! “Kiss the Cook”:

Happy birthday, sweet friend! Hope your “flirty-ith” was fabulous!

Just over a year ago I was asked to go with my church to document our first mission trip to El Alto, Bolivia. You can read about it in my original blog here. There is another upcoming trip being planned right now that I was invited back on. This time I was determined to get in “shape” so I wouldn’t need an oxygen mask attached to my face-at an altitude of 13,000 feet that would’ve been a HUGE accomplishment. However, I’ll be missing the trip as it fell at the same time my sister is getting hitched. I’m so excited for my sister, but also sad that I’ll be missing the trip. I was looking forward to seeing our little girl, Belen, and the other friends made during such a impactful week.
I’ve been doing a little hard drive cleaning this week (my husband is thrilled with the piles of DVDs I’ve had laying around:) and found myself lost in the memories that I thought would still be fresh in my mind…Wow how the routine of everyday life can rob us of wisdom gained. I came back from that trip with perspective! I live in a castle, I have more than I need-bedrooms & bathrooms, food & clothing. Indeed I know how richly blessed I am, but how easily I forget…I am so grateful for photography. It gives me a clear reminder of something that I had learned, but all too easily forgot.
Our little Belen…So excited to brush her teeth. I think she brushed them three times…

She warmed up to me:)

As I was going through some “old” files today I started feeling a bit nostalgic. These KGP babies aren’t such babies anymore and many of them are (or going to be) big brothers and big sisters:) Time just flies by doesn’t it?
It was fun seeing how my style has changed in the last couple years-maybe not changed but more focused on lifestyle and less trying to be other photographers that I’ve seen. But we all start somewhere… I started by spending hours surfing the net reading blogs and forums that taught anything I could learn. After learning and learning (and still learning:) I’ve refined my “style” and what type of memories I want to capture for the families that I work with. What I love about lifestyle is that it shows more than what you look like, it tells a story. And our stories are always changing! I know my family’s story is different than it was even just a few months ago! For more information about lifestyle photography, give me a call! Let’s talk about your family’s story:720-333-9011.
Happy Wednesday!

Happy Friday everyone!
Here’s a new mystery pic for you! I hope I didn’t make it too easy..
Enjoy:) Let the guessing begin!

Kaela Green | 720.333.9011 | kaelagreenphoto@gmail.com
Last week many of you played along with the mystery picture game. (Click here to view the picture again.) Thank you for your guesses-so many of you were close! Which means I’ll have to make it harder next time:)
Here’s the picture:

We had so many guesses: atv, monster truck, rc car, motorcycle, and even the profile of a baby in an ultrasound (see the snow in the background?).
This is one of my boys’ favorite games to play: snowplow! Usually we play with flour, but this day we played with real snow:) My boys LOVE it! You’ve gotta try this if you have little ones that love to play with their Hot Wheels. We use a cookie sheet and a towel-if using real snow. If using flour, you will need a vacuum too:) Especially if while you’re working you’re (almost) 5 year old spilled a bunch and then “cleaned it up”.
Happy Tuesday!

I was on my way to one of my favorite activities, sleep, when I was startled awake by an unknown sound. So I got my iphone flashlight and went to investigate…this is what I found:

My hubby told me he’d found him sleeping in this position before, but he moved before I could take a picture. Last night this boy was OUT! I was able to take all sorts of pictures without him even stirring. To my knowledge only C has slept in this position-looks comfortable doesn’t it?
This post has given me an idea that I’ll be sharing at the beginning of next week! Keep a watch here and/or Facebook for future details. Happy Sunday!
