How do I even start a post about my first baby that turns 8 today?? All the things I began drafting in my head didn’t sound right so I’ll just dive in:) Eight years ago today my life changed forever. Becoming a mom was the best gift I’ve ever been given. It has been a series of joyousness, challenges, rewards, surprises, and moments I hope I’ll never forget. Just last night we were kidding around and Ryan was joking with me and my little AJ (now 6) came to my rescue and said, “Please don’t tease my mom because I love her.” I nearly started crying right there. It’s amazing to me the bonds that we have with our kids… I get so excited for my clients who are taking the leap into parenting and I’m blessed to be a part of it! Our lives are forever changed-for so much the better!

To my Ryan, I love you!

What a year it was for me! I had the privilege of photographing new families and making new connections! I met brand new babies and saw other babies that are growing too fast! …Graduating seniors, beloved bliss, and lots and lots of smiling families! It was a great year! Here are some of my favorites from 2011…

Thank you 2011 clients for your love and support!

Happy 4th of July!!! I’m using today to catch up on some of my family’s old pictures and ran across some that I had to share! I had fun looking through pictures of my boys that have gotten so BIG in the last two years!! I loved remembering things that I had forgotten- thankful again for my camera. When you grab your camera today to document your holiday think out of the box. Don’t only point and shoot- take a moment and think about what you’d like to remember. Record the details of the day and tell the story. When I pick up my camera that’s my goal to tell the story so that years from now, ok, let’s be honest, days from now:) when I forget I can look through my albums (yes! get those photos into albums or send them to me and I’ll make a slideshow movie) you will remember the little things and it will make your heart sigh.
I couldn’t decide between which two to share, so I decided on both:)

And because it’s the 4th of July I had to share some from our past two years…
Grandma and Grandpa cooing over their newest grandson:) C is pretty crazy about them too!

Nervous about the fireworks, but safe in Daddy’s arms.

Sparklers without shoes-we are awesome parents:)

My husband shows his enthusiasm for fireworks-clearly his favorite thing!

2010 his nervousness is now full blown fear…

Yay! He’s wearing shoes:)

LOVE this:)

Carson just as enthused about fireworks…

Watching from a safe distance.

Happy 4th of July! Happy shooting! Kaela Green | 720.333.9011 | kaelagreenphoto@gmail.com

One of the mommy things I always wanted to do was make homemade cakes, not necessarily from scratch, but home-decorated. It all started when I was looking at my husband’s scrapbook and saw these awesome cakes-cookie monster, Denver Bronco helmet, and yes even an eyeball cake. As gross as it looks, I’m sure it was delicious and I would’ve eaten some! :0)

[Picture from my hubby's scrapbook]
I saw all these cakes and was inspired! So for Ryan’s 3rd birthday I wanted to give it a try, however, I soon learned that the cake decorating didn’t come easy to me… as you can see from my first attempt. Any guesses at what it is??

[Picture from my mom]
Then we have my second attempt, AJ’s 2nd birthday:

This one is a little better. I also love that you can see my photography skills have grown. (gulp!)
Here is a first attempt at a 3D cake for Ryan’s 4th birthday:

I was very proud of my firetruck! I had red frosting instead of pink and it didn’t fall over-although it did lean significantly! Then came my favorite (so far)…

My mil taught me how to frost the cake so I didn’t blend the colors.
Then I took a year off and made tornado cupcakes.

I did make Carsie’s cake for his 1st bday, but it’s so much cuter to see the baby then the cake;)
[Picture taken by Maria Mitchell of Life Clicks Photography]

…and a chocolate sprinkle cake.
Then my sister-in-love taught me how to work with fondant. …

My honey’s cake:

[That means 8x4.75=38- I have my dad's humor]
A monster truck cake:

So the idea behind this one was that they could drive on the cake, but I didn’t think Chick-Fil-A would be a big a fan. So…it was an eye soar of deliciousness!
And my most recent cake. I used a ball pan, made my own butter cream frosting and wrestled with homemade marshmallow fondant (and won:) The Death Star:

After looking back at these, I can see that I’m not getting any better. Maybe there’s a cake decorating class in my future. Really it isn’t about showing off my decorating skills (or lack off:) it’s about celebrating another year with my boys and showing them how much they mean to us. It blesses them and that makes it SO worth it! And I’ve learned that no matter what the cake looks like it’s still YUM-O! What’s not to like: cake batter-good, baked cake-good, frosting- GOOD!
Last week many of you played along with the mystery picture game. (Click here to view the picture again.) Thank you for your guesses-so many of you were close! Which means I’ll have to make it harder next time:)
Here’s the picture:

We had so many guesses: atv, monster truck, rc car, motorcycle, and even the profile of a baby in an ultrasound (see the snow in the background?).
This is one of my boys’ favorite games to play: snowplow! Usually we play with flour, but this day we played with real snow:) My boys LOVE it! You’ve gotta try this if you have little ones that love to play with their Hot Wheels. We use a cookie sheet and a towel-if using real snow. If using flour, you will need a vacuum too:) Especially if while you’re working you’re (almost) 5 year old spilled a bunch and then “cleaned it up”.
Happy Tuesday!

I was on my way to one of my favorite activities, sleep, when I was startled awake by an unknown sound. So I got my iphone flashlight and went to investigate…this is what I found:

My hubby told me he’d found him sleeping in this position before, but he moved before I could take a picture. Last night this boy was OUT! I was able to take all sorts of pictures without him even stirring. To my knowledge only C has slept in this position-looks comfortable doesn’t it?
This post has given me an idea that I’ll be sharing at the beginning of next week! Keep a watch here and/or Facebook for future details. Happy Sunday!

That’s quite a title, huh?
My mom and dad came for a visit recently and we decided to take Ryan out of school (shh, don’t tell the authorities that we value family time). We wanted to go on an outdoor adventure and chose the windiest day all year to do it. So even though the car said 50ish degrees it felt much colder. Our adventure took place in Golden, CO. My mom and I are big fans of historic towns and I’ve driven by Golden a few times, but never explored it on foot. It is beautiful and I must say it had a gorgeous tattoo parlor: Faith Tattoo Gallery. I’ve got to say that I’d set up a studio right inside, this place was gorgeous. For those of you that are wondering, I’m not planning on getting a tattoo, but I did recently pierce my nose and as a newbie to the whole nose-pierced world I had some questions. Unfortunately they don’t do piercings, but the man was super friendly, had two cute chihuahuas (as cute as chihuahuas can be anyway), and like I previously mentioned a beautiful tattoo gallery. So aside from the great second-hand shops-for which I will have to return, because 3 boys in tow does NOT make for a pleasant shopping experience, our adventure ended shortly because of this crazy cold wind.
On our way home (actually we were on our way to McDonald’s because after all we promised the boys an adventure, and let’s face it sometimes eating off Ronald’s menu can be an adventure) we saw a sign to the Colorado Railroad Museum. One thing you should know about me is that I am NOT a museum kind of gal. I can handle the occasional museum from time to time, but given the limited time we have on this earth, it’s not a place I choose to frequent. But it did say “railroad” and my dad and my boys are huge train fans. My parents did the usual should we go, should we not go, but a decision needed to be made so I may have crossed over two lanes a little more quickly than needed to make the exit and we arrived. It was AWESOME! There were trains everywhere and many you could go into and explore. The boys, my dad included, were wild with excitement. And because I can’t compartmentalize I got to thinkin’, “This place would be awesome for a photoshoot!” I thought I’d share some pictures that I took to give you an idea of how cool this place is. These were taken with my point and shoot and like my Disney pictures, I think it does pretty good:)

He was like a kid in a candy shop.

My dad is a museum kind of guy:)

So I’ve been thinking of doing a mini-session Saturday out in Golden at the Colorado Train Museum. I’m still thinking on some things and would like your input. The session would include 5×7′s or 8×10′s, mini-accordion album or 5×5 album, DVD slideshow… what do you think? I’d love your input. If you’re interested in a mini-session at the Train Museum, shoot me an email or give me a call 720.333.9011. Also, I’d love to hear from you, so leave me a comment!
Choo-choo!

I am a wife. I am a mother. And I am a photographer. There are so many hats that I wear that change on any given day, but last Wednesday I got to be AJ’s mommy and a photographer. My son’s preschool was studying community helpers and I was asked to talk about what I do. How cool is that? We talked a little about how we all carry around our own cameras, our eyes! Then we used our “cameras” to draw a picture of something that is important to us right now. My son drew a twisty-turny tornado and a monster truck:)

So how does a lifestyle photographer help a community? I take pictures that tell stories…
I told them how important pictures are and how they don’t just show us what we looked like when we were in preschool, but lifestyle photography shows us a little bit about who we were. For example this picture:

My son has recently gotten into playing legos. He loves creating different trucks or anything that goes “vroom”!
Then in this picture:

This would not win a competition by any standard, but the value it has for me is priceless. I know someday I’ll forget about the Toy Story light up shoes that were one of the first pair he could put on himself. I know I’ll forget that he LOVES that shirt even though it’s 2 sizes too big! And I will probably even forget that he always sits on his knees, but with precious pictures that lifestyle photography provides I will remember. And when I do, I’ll smile…

It’s just one of those times when I sigh and think how blessed I am to be a mother to my three boys…

So if you’re a photographer, or even someone who’s got an eye for pictures, you’ll probably notice 99 things wrong with this picture. I won’t name them all, the lighting is just not ideal for a portrait…BUT…I LOVE this picture. These are my boys. My three wonderful, sweet boys. I can remember what we were doing this day, hear their giggles, and why they are loving on each other. Granted it was just a few days ago, but if you know me that doesn’t mean I would remember:) LOL. This is why I love photography – lifestyle photography. It’s about capturing the true essence of a family and remembering that specific time or moment when you look back at the photographs. The emphasis isn’t on the technical, but the emotional. I would give up a technically perfect photograph any day if it lacks emotion and feeling. It’s not the technical perfection that will take your breath away, it’s your loved ones hugging and loving on each other, when the shutter went “click”.
